Okay I have 2 computers. I have almost the same configurations on both (non-problem computer is just a little higher end components). Both run Win XP problem one is home & other is Pro, both have 1+ GB of ram, decent CPU speeds, nice large HD's. The one that is working I can put a DVD into either drive (2 DVD read/writable drives in each computer) and no matter what program it pulls from the DVD plays. In the problem computer I've tried installing Nero to help with decrypting/decoding and DVD43 and DVD HD decrytpor. Nothing seems to help and when I go through the link to the Windows Media player link it shows you all sorts on options that have to be paid for. I feel that since I paid for a DVD RW drive I should be able to do this woithout paying out MORE money. Any help figuring out what the heck is different so I can fix the second computer would be much appreciated.

If you're trying to just playback a DVD movie (for example), Windows Media Player won't do it unless you have a DVD decoder (AKA a codec) installed. Generally speaking, most people use a program like WinDVD or PowerDVD for DVD movie playback. There are free players that work just fine. VLC is popular; MPlayer and GOMplayer are good too. Personally, I use the KLite Mega Pack with Media Player Classic (it's built-in to the codec pack). If you're trying to burn DVDs, Windows Media Player just won't do it. You need Nero or another burning program, or an authoring/converting application to convert AVI (or other formats) into DVDs. Here's some links for DVD playback:
    VLC Media Player http://www.majorgeeks.com/VLC_media_player_d4674.html
    MPlayer http://www.majorgeeks.com/MPlayer_d5663.html
    GOMPlayer http://www.majorgeeks.com/Gom_Player_d5595.html
KLite Mega Codec Pack http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_d5230.html (includes Media Player Classic)
    I hope this helps!

Thanks I just needed a way to watch the DVD's. I am having issues with Burning but I'll save that for later when I am ready to try again. (My head still needs to finish healing from the last try! :D ) I downloaded the one you use and recommend it works great. Oh and let people know if they are looking for a free player not to go to cliprex or it's spelled something like that. I thought I'd try them and my virus protection (Avast! for second computer) said it has a trojan horse attached to the download.

    Thanks for the Help!!!!!
