Lost Games - etc.

I keep shortcuts to 4 Windows games on my desktop. (Freecell, MahJong, Solitaire, Spider Solitaire)

Today, they are missing. I've not deleted them. No idea where they've gone. So, I went to Start menu - All Programs - Games folder - lo and behold, missing from there, too! Other games (Minesweeper, for instance, still there.)

I tried a System Restore - it failed, probably because AVG blocked something. So tried a 'Last known Good Config' - made no difference.

Restarted in Safe Mode, and ran an AVG scan - nothing reported amiss.

I've restarted in normal mode, and run a Malwares Anti-Malware scan. Nothing found. Scan completed successfully! No malicious items were detected!

This may be irrelevant - I don't know ... This morning I logged on to a site that said they were making all their pages more secure (changing from 'http' to 'https'). For me, using Firefox, I got a 'minimal' page, with just blue headings, no graphics. On IE I got the proper display. But - when I first logged on to the site, I got an unexpected 'splash' screen saying something about 'You've won a prize - click here ...' so I immmediately killed the screen. I wonder if that had anything to do with this problem.

I can't say exactly why, but I've got a feeling there's some internal problem. Some things seem to load or run slower than I expect. Maybe just be being unsettled by this.

Any help to get the games back would be very welcome - as would any ideas for further scanning for viruses, rectifying any damage, etc.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
AVG Free - which scans every night prior to auto-closedown.

 

Also check if the game files are still there. Got to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games.
