I just downloaded and installed the new firefox.

It's like I'm looking at a screen for the seeing impaired...like the resolution is totally off.

Does anyone have any clue what would cause this or how I can fix it???? I've tried playing around with Options > font. That didn't work.

Did you try View>Zoom>Zoom-Out? You may have to repeat it several times ...

That's a temporary fix for just the font. My resolution for the entire window is off. I tried uninstalling, running CCleaner and reinstalling. That didn't help.

Well, I uninstalled 3 and reinstalled Firefox 2. I'll wait for them to iron out all the bugs.

I found this and apparently it helped for the one guy, but once I went into about:config I couldn't follow what he was saying.:confused

If anyone takes a look and wants to interpret the about:config instructions, that would be great. Otherwise, I'm sticking with FF 2.0. I don't have the patience to have to mess around with a browser.

Btw, if a mod/admin reads this, could you change the ridiculously poor English in my thread title to Firefox 3 Resolution problems (font huge).

    LOL@ thread title.

As to huge fonts, I always adjust my fonts to quite large, I just hold the 'ctrl' key down
and use the scroller on my mouse to size the fonts. The size remains even after a reboot.

    :p @ augie :-D

I think my problem is the dpi as stated in the one person problem in the link I gave since I adjusted mine out of necessity a long time ago when I first go my laptop.

I just don't think the person's instructions were well written. It couldn't possibly be me. LOL

    What's the hang up Laura?

    1) Type about:config at location bar, click "Go"
    2) See a warning and click a button in the middle to continue.
    3) Right-click somewhere on the page and select "Create->Integer" in the popup menu.
    4) Type "layout.css.dpi" (without quotes) into text box, click "OK"
    5) Enter "1" (without quotes) into text box, click "OK"
    6) Restart FireFox
    7) Enjoy nice, fit and streamlined FF3 interface ;-)

I take it that you've got into the about:config page? So steps 1 and 2 are done. Is it the 3rd step you're stuck on?

I'm thinking maybe the problem is that I tried to do the fix in FF 2 just to check if it would work. It must be different in FF 3. When I get back, I'll reinstall 3 and try it there. I'm not getting the warning in FF 2 and when I right click it just highlights one of the Preference names and gives me the option to change that.

Yes, there's no warning message in FF2 like there is in FF3.

This procedure is pretty accurate; the only mistake I can see is that you want to select New --> Integer as opposed to Create --> Integer when right clicking the about:config page.

    I thought it did anyway.

A lot of my pages are messed up.

    FF 2, you're coming back.

lol...NOW you ask me, mada. LOL

nah, I didn't see that and I've already uninstalled and reinstalled FF 2. I think I'm going to wait to try to reinstall until they've updated FF 3. Maybe they'll have gotten rid of some of the bugs that people seem to be having.

I also didn't like how they seemed to adopt Opera's location bar feature where bookmarked links come up when you start typing.

Also, even my font was somehow different here at MGs with FF 3.:confused

I ran into the same messed-up page problem that LauraR did when I followed those instructions. However, when I entered the dpi value of my monitor's "Normal" font size--96 in my case--instead of 1, that did the trick. You can find the dpi value you need in Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced. If your windows fonts are set to Large or a Custom setting, look in the drop down box to find Normal. You may have to go into the firefox options and adjust your default font sizes.

Somebody said they can't erase history now from ff3, so I tried same, but if you just hover over and hit delete key :hammer bam bam bam. history is history!

Thanks. Mine's at custom level (144 dpi). I'll try it. :)

I'm not sure where I am, my last post was in wrong thread...
but resolution is determined by ...
couple different ways to change it...
    easy?
right click any blank spot on yer desktop,,, a window pops up...
    click on properties...
near the top... it has settings... all the way by the right...click on that!
see a little slide bar in the lower left corner??
put the mouse pointer on top click and hold... slide it left or right as you prefer your resolution...
    click "apply"...
Wow, I just did that and I don't like it...
    do it again...
    when happy... click OK:dancer

My windows fonts are at 144 dpi as well. I set the integer value to 96 and then adjusted my default ff3 fonts under Tools -> Options. That been working fine, but you could see what happens when you enter 144 or some other value. That might work too.

Thanks, Sargon_Zero. I tried it. It worked for the resolution. There are just a couple sites where the pages are messed up with it.

I really really don't like what they've done with the address bar. As soon as I start typing in it, every bookmark I have comes up. It is not my history, it's all the sites in my bookmarks (just to be clear). I have not found a way to change the options for that.

Scratch that...I found this: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+disable+the+Smart+Location+Bar for anyone who wants to get rid of the "smart location bar" rolleyes

I have to say, I'm not wild about FF 3 at all.

FF 2 is back on my computer.
