As many of you know, G.T. has been facing some serious health issues in recent months and today he began chemotherapy treatment. Abby was in contact with him this morning before he left and hopes to hear from him soon after his return home. Since treatments of this type tend to really put a person down for several days at a time, it may be a bit before we hear from him again. He's a very strong and positive person and those are good qualities to have when facing something like this.

If you are the sort, please keep him in your prayers. If you don't believe in prayer, he accepts postive karma also.

    Thanks.

I also take Mastercard and Visa. :D

Not too bad so far. They gave me two steroids and some other stuff to buffer it, and so far I'm just very tired, and a bit punchy. Doc tells me that with this stuff, the most likely "down" time is likely at 1 to 2 weeks into it (dose is once every 3 weeks), and that possibly tomorrow will be some worse than today. But everybody reacts differently, and we'll see how it goes. He also wants to check my blood in a week, because this stuff attacks red cells, white cells, and platelettes along with cancer cells, and wants to make sure I don't get too anemic from it. Since it also causes your hair to fall out, I got a crew-cut yesterday to beat the rush. ;)

Thanks for posting this Chris. Prayer, karma, whatever are most appreciated. Rather than replying directly to Teresa, I'll let here read it here, as that's about all the news there is so far.

Unless I get to feeling REALLY bad, I still expect to stick my head in here pretty regularly.

G.T. my friend, as always sir, you have my prayers as well as my utmost respect. If there is ANYTHING that I am able to do for you don't hesitate to call on me. I think I sent you my phone number before, if not I know Chris and Teresa should have it and have my permission to pass it on to you. May the Lord God bless you and keep you and yours safe and strong through these troubling times.

    Your friend,

Yes, please keep us posted. There are many people here that look forward to your posts, not only for the bright, informative content contained in them, but also the fact they are in complete sentences. ;)

We'll call this weekend; why don't you get one of those phones you can stick in your ear that makes one look like a dork cyborg and you won't expend any energy answering the phone :D

Take care...holler if you need anything :)

G.T. I hope it goes well for you. Looking forward to a full recovery for you. I'm curious, is mississippi a medical marijuana state? Is that something you would consider if you needed the help?

Well, it saves me the trouble of combing it in the morning.

No, Mississippi isn't a state where "medical" marijuana is legal. And no, I won't go chasing it. It's primary benefits for cancer patients seems to be relieving nausea and improving appetite. I normally don't throw up, haven't for years, so probably won't have as much trouble with that as some, and as long as I can keep food down, I'll eat properly. I eat to live, not live to eat, so even if I don't "feel like" eating, I'll eat anyway.

"Full recovery" is not an option, unless God smiles. All treatments they have are only delaying tactics, although I'll take those. And mine is extremely aggressive. It hit way younger than usual, spread much faster than usual, and the hormone therapy that is usually effective for anywhere from 18 months to 4 years started failing for me after 3 months. Taxotere, which is the newest and best chemo for what I have has an average life expectancy for its patients of 17 1/2 months. Some longer, some shorter, but as aggressive and wide spread as mine is, I don't expect to break any records. (shrug) I've always been somewhat ahead of the curve. Even my cancer is overclocked. ;)

I hope the treatments are not too hard to take G.T. I don't pray, but I often think of you, and will continue to do so.

I also hope that if I am ever confronted with a comparable struggle, that I can show the courage and grace you seem to have in spades.

Good luck mate, and keep us posted when you can...:)

WILL be missed.... sometime, eventually, for ALL of us. Knowing I'll be missed, here and there, is a good thing. It tells me I've done at least some things right. ;)

While it's true that the doctors don't always have the last word, overall statistics do tend to point toward the most likely outcomes. And there's nothing wrong with contemplating and planning for your own death, it eventually comes to all of us. Heck, simply taking out life insurance is acknowledging that you're not going to live forever. Hope and pray for the best, plan for the worst, and cope with whatever comes of it. I posted the following in a different forum late, a few nights ago, after somebody told me not to say die; that I was too stubborn to die. Some repetitive, but appropriate:

Nothing wrong with contemplating death. But use it as a spur to make the most of whatever LIFE you have.

    Thanks. :)

ROFL! Now that's solidarity. :D Although yours will likely look better than mine in a week or two when mine starts coming out in bunches. LOL. And it's still pretty cold up here with nights in the 30s F. My poor head gets cold. I think I'll order a couple of those MajorGeeks ballcaps. Might as well get a few chuckles out of keeping my head warm.

LMAO looks like its the week for cropping your hair off, mine now a #2 with a slightly thinning top level...... if it gets any worse a #0 is called for!!!

GT you are correct docs dont know it all, I work as you may know in the med research area and the docs I work with admit they dont know it all and treatment works differently for each person, so you have to hold that little bit of hope that you are different to the %s they hand out... a good part of overcoming any illiness is the power of positive thought.

Just remember this one tip from me.. if a doc ever says you have idiopatic symptoms ... KICK him/her in the junk!! ;)

Gary, as always, my thoughts and prayers are with you. You know how much we have in common, and all the various discussions we've had over the years.

I sincerely with you all the best, my old friend, and will look forward to chatting with you soon.

As was said, Doctors don't always have the final word. I'm living proof to that one.

Take care, and yak to you soon. :)

I’ve been offline a lot lately dealing with the death of a very close friend that went missing, and died in the Australian outback last week. They found the body on Monday and we had to view what was left of her the other day, so it has been a tough time lately. There’s links to it on Google, for those that aren’t aware.

Never know what life may through at you, I suppose.

I’ll catch up with you in the near future.

Sorry about your friend Barry. The worst deaths are the ones that come as a total surprise. And the older we get, the more of them we've had to deal with.

And yeah, we do have a lot in common. LOL. Even more now than in past years. Take care my friend.

just wanted to ad a friend of my moms was only given something like 2 months to live, and she ended up living another, i dont remember exactly, but it was at least ten years!
She (after the first year) lived and took care of herself, going shoping, grocery store, and everything, with no loss of enjoyment of life.
she never looked like she was in pain at all (tho i know better than that now), but i do know she ejoyed every day of her life

Keep up the positive thoughts, GT!!!! I'm a perfect example of miracles!! When I was 6 months old...I came down with pneumococcal menongitis, and the doctors said that IF I lived...I would be a complete vegetable!! Ended up, that the only thing it affected is my hearing!! So obviously...I know there is such things as miracles!!!! I also believe the one person responsible for the prayers that made the miracle happen is my grandmother!! If there was a situation where only ONE person in this whole world could go to heaven...I would be extremely shocked if she wasn't the one that was chosen!!!!

So not only I, but my grandmother will keep you in our prayers!!!!!!!!!!!!

And never forget the power of positive thinking!!!!!!

Ditto ALL of that. As a retired Doc, I know that prayer works, easily as well as all the magic doctors can try to do. I recall many patients wanting to pray with and for me, prior to their surgery. You are in all our thoughts and prayers. And remember, only the GOOD die young.
