won't connect to internet but network ok

i now have 2 of 3 computers that i can't access the internet from but they can still be recognized on the network. the only thing it won't do is access the internet. i've tried everything that i can think of and none of the programs recognize a problem. one computer is running winxp pro and the other is using win server 2003. please help i am getting frustrated and ready to through something at the wall. nothing shows up with hijackthis or anything else that i use. please help!!!

 

What kind of network are you running? Also did you set the computers up manually or let windows setup ICS automatically? I had a problem like yours where the network was working and stuff like msn messenger and kazaa were working but IE and Mozilla wouldn't connect. It turned out I'd setup the clients IPs statically but hadn't setup the DNS server so browsers wouldn't connect to the internet.

 

i am just running a regular home network with hubs and routers. so ya, i fixed one of the puters with the dns info. thanks! but my other puter still won't work. i'm lost!

The previous advisor intended for you to adjust both PCs in the same manner. Plus, you need to provide a bit more detail.

1. Are you running your stand-alone server as a Domain Controller?

In other words, have you typed dcpromo.exe due to a lesson in a self-study book?

2. Are both client computers configured for dynamic IP addressing?

3. If you are running a workgroup, do all computers have the same workgroup name?
