    Greetings,

I've gone through the malware removal procedure and the problem I was having still persists.

    I downloaded this:
    http://www.newzipopenerfun.com/gb/s...r=&ap=none&dv=c&color=yellow&agid=_5286425468

thinking it was software recommended by a developer I purchased a theme from. So I ignored my antivirus warnings until I realized I was in too deep and now I've got a bunch of bloatware, PUPs, and potential mal/spyware loaded on my computer.

As far as I can tell, this is what was loaded:
    DC-Bass Source 1.3.0
    Delta Chrome Toolbar
    Delta Toolbar 1.8.21.0
    Direct Vob Sub 2.40.4209.2.40.4209
    DivX Setup 2.6.1.8
    ffdshow v1.1.4399[2012-3-22]
    Haali Media Splitter 1.1.4399.0
    Lagaright Lossless Coder (1.3.27)
    LAME v3.99.9
    Notepad ++ 6.3.3
Open Source Flash Video Splitter 1.0.0.5 1.0.0.5
    Xvid
    DSP-worX
    ActiPlayer

I don't want or need any of this, useful or not, and could tell right off that I had allowed some risky stuff in, particularly when Delta became my new default search engine on Google Chrome even when I removed it from my search settings.

My first response was to run a quick scan with malware bytes, which didn't find anything. I then did a system restore to a restore point created 6 days ago.

Delta is still my default search engine and I can see traces of all of the programs listed above even though they've technically been removed. (I tried to shred them from my C drive but my system wouldn't allow me to.)

Any help you could offer would be truly appreciated.

Many of the items you listed are not problems and would be things you downloaded. Notepad++ is an outstanding Windows Notepad editor replace which is extremely powerful and quite useful. It had no malware or adware associated with it. It is on every one of my PCs. ;)

However anything that you do not want installed, you should just uninstall if you have not done so already. Looks like you have based on your logs.

Delta is definitely junk you do not want!!

    Uninstall the below software:
    Java 7 Update 17
    Search Protect by conduit
    Swag_Bucks

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run it by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:

    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi,

Thanks for your help. As far as having uninstalled the bajillionty programs that I unintentionally downloaded, they do not show up when I go to Control Panel -> Uninstall. (This was and still is the case after I did the system restore on 5-18.)

But they are still listed in my C: drive program files, and although windows tells me the folders are empty, they still appear to be active. (And I agree about Notepad++; I was actually looking for a free download of it the other day, so if it's still there I'm fine with that :) Nevertheless, I want to wipe out everything that downloaded when I idiotically clicked on that link.

I ran through the steps that you posted, and Delta is still there and is still taking over Google Chrome. And like I said above, the long list of program folders still reside in my C: drive.

So I guess we'll see where to go next.

    Thanks again for your help.

Okay this is due to the System Restore. We will force remove the rest.

Yes the homepage is set to delta and there are search addons from Swagbucks and Delta. You should be able to change/remove these manually. But many time the easiest fix for Chrome ( since it does not have a reset to defaults ) is to uninstall it, reboot, delete the below folder:

    C:\Users\Krista\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome

And then reinstall. You should take this approach to save time.

Run it by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box

    C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software
    C:\ProgramData\DivX
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\DirectVobSub
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\DivX Plus
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ffdshow
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Xvid
    C:\Program Files (x86)\DirectVobSub
    C:\Program Files (x86)\DivX
    C:\Program Files (x86)\DSP-worx
    C:\Program Files (x86)\ffdshow

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Lame For Audacity
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Xvid
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\DivX Shared
    C:\Users\Krista\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]

    Thanks for responding.

I just want to make sure that I understand the order of operations here. So there will be 2 separate processes - the 1st is to uninstall Chrome, delete the app data, then reinstall it (to get rid of Delta) and the 2nd is to run through the OTM process again to manually and fully remove the programs that were installed? And do I need to do it in that order (1st then 2nd) or does that matter?

By the way, Swagbucks is actually something I want and use so if you see it in the logs again, that is intentional. :)

Again, I really appreciate your help with this.

I went ahead and ran through the process as I described in my last post. Everything looks good except that I lost my Chrome bookmarks & passwords. Oops.

Thanks again. Files are attached. Will reply to this thread if anything looks wonky in the next week or so.

    Much appreciated -

You're welcome. Your logs look good now.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
