Trying to connect to router

I have a motorola sbg901 wireless router from access communications. I want to do some port forwarding but I cannot access the router. Ipconfig tells me the default gateway is 172.18.198.1 but when I connect to it I get nothing.

Do some ISP's disallow you from accessing settings on there routers? The SSID and password is stamped on the side of the modem as well.

Have you tried Simple Port Forwarding?

The gateway you gave us sounds like the router IP but your router ip should be 192.168.0.1. Thats what you connect to the router with. By default the login is admin and the password is motorola: http://help.cableone.net/HSD/Modem/P...User_Guide.pdf

Sounds like you need the gateway IP not the default ip but to be honest I am not a huge networking guru which is why I suggested Simple Port Forwarding.

Your guess that the router/modem may be locked down is probably correct if the Simple Port Forwarding program does not give you any results.
Since the IP address is in the private range and DHCP is turned on, (from the information in the code box), I would contact the ISP to see what you can do with the router/modem.
