I need some help here guys. I am working on a friends computer and he has a type of smit fraud and browser hijacker. I am unable to goto major geeks from his computer or to bleeping computer. I am unable to go to any online scanners or download anything. I found a proxy server so I could bypass the stupid thing, but once I downloaded the program it won't let me run it. Tells me that it is an invalid win32 application.

This is a vista OS. Please advise. Thanks.

    ***Update***

Started using my thumb drive to transfer files between the two computers. I have removed a lot of junk, but I keep getting redirected to http:\\search\imesh.com or something to that extent.

This malware is causing many problems. I am unable to run any programs that I have downloaded. When running AV programs when windows is in normal mode I recieve a BSOD error:

    0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x8205e9dd, 0x82bbcbdc, 0x82bbc8d8)

Everything runs fine until I try to run AVG or spybot.

    I need some help guys...:confused

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Note:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Tim, thanks for the reply but apprently you did read my prior postings. I know you guys are very busy doing this, and thank god you are still free!

Although, after working on this for about 8 hours I finaly have been able to get through all of the scans. took about 3 hours to get the scans done, everything else was trying to get the scans to the computer, getting updated, and scanned without getting the BSOD error. I think that the BSOD is caused from some type of malware. I don't know which one though.

Any way, could you please take a look at peak at my logs and let me know if you see anything else. So far, I have re-enabled UAC and have cleared the restore points.

Why do you have the administrator account turned off and the guest enabled?
    Code:
    Users on this computer:
    Is Admin? | Username ------------------
    Yes | Administrator (Disabled)
           | Guest
    Yes | Txxxxx Axxxxxxxxx

Please use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\ProgramData\WildTangent

Now use add/remove programs to uninstall:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_15

I am assuming that at some point you did run Malwarebytes and had it fix what it found.

Your logs are clean...tell me if you are still having problems.

Thank you sir. I am not sure why it is set up that way. I didn't notice it other than having to "Run as Admistrator". Guess I forgot to remove the Java stuff too.

    Again, thanks for your help!

If you are not having any other malware issues, we need to clean up from the scans:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you do get a success message, then it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combo-fix folder from combofix.
    4. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    5. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    8. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    9. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    10. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    11. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    12. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
