Hi, I have an external battery powered HD that is used to transfer data from digi-cam SD chips on the go. I have all my holiday pics on it but it is refusing to spin up, so I cannot access my data. I am pretty sure that the data is all still intact on the drive though. My question is what can I do to retrieve the data from the drive? How easily could it be repaired without losing the data? Is this something that I could do myself?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated. ![]()

If the drive is dead I'd say you have about zero chance of getting the info off the drive without resorting to a data recovery company, they will charge a small fortune to get the data for you basically by buying a new version of your drive and replacing the components, its up to you to decide if your pictures are worth it
there are other avenues to go down first, check the manufacturers sites troubleshooting section, check for specific problems with your drive also, your warranty is useless as it doesnt cover the data on the drive, check the battery\batteries and charger with a testmeter Post all the problem symptoms your having with the drive in as much detail as possible, does the drive light up when powered up,is it recognized by windows when connected ect.ect. ![]()
