    Here are my comp specs

Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook with all the default hardware, nothing added
    Windows XP Pro
    2.0 GHz celeron processor
    512 mb ram
    20 gig HD

Here is what my computer has been doing, and its been going on for awhile-

The start menu will open close by itself (this happens when plugged into the net or unpluggged, and its even done this directly after a full reformat). Sometimes it will open and close a few times in a minute, other times it will go non stop for hours.

The other thing that happens is about half of my keyboard will turn into hotkeys, These are the ones I've noticed

    (F) Find
    (G) Startmenu
    (R) Run
    (M) Minimize all windows
    (D) Show desktop
    (L) Logoff
    (U) Utlility Manager
    (E) I forget what this opened

So you can imagine how annoying this is when i go to type a paper, and this decides to kick in half way through

I've noticed that both of these problems go hand in hand when they show up and I never have one with out the other, so I'm almost positive they are connected. And they dont happen all the time either. Sometimes I can go a week or so, sometimes an hour.

I've tried a dozen of virus and spyware softwares and none have done squat to get rid of it. Here a few Ive used
    -Norton
    -McAfee
    -F-Prot
    -Spyware Doctor
    -Ad-Aware

What thing I have noticed is that when I have the hotkey issue and I open and the close the taskmanager it will make it stop for a while.

I've searched all over the net for the last few months and talked friends with computers, tech guys, and have found nothing on this, nobody has had this happen to them or heard of it ever happening to anyone else. So am I the one unlucky bastard out there with this bug or what ever the hell it is?

Your help would be greatly apreciated.

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com, please follow our standard cleaning procedures:

[IMG] Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
[IMG] Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

[IMG]After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

[IMG] Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
    • Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
[IMG] In your next post, please make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order:
    • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
    • Bitdefender - from step 6
    • Panda Scan - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
