Default Can I run Mac OS on my PC and other ?s

I have a PC right now and running Windows XP. I don't really know how operatins systems work despite being quite computer-savvy. How would I go about using my PC just with the Mac OS? How do I know which programs I have now will work in Mac OS? From what I've seen/heard it is a more stable OS, has less problems and less suseptible to viruses and the like. Basically, I'm asking how the switch is done, and what the pros and cons are of making the switch from Windows to Mac.

The legal switch is to buy an Apple computer.

There is no legal method of installing OS X on your PC.

Even under emulation, its a grey area.

As for your applications, no win32 application will work.

If you buy a new Mac (Mac hardware), there are ways to run Windows on the Mac hardware, so you could keep your Windows apps for now and just slowly upgrade everything until you don't need Windows anymore.
