I think that it is probably time for you to switch. I got my macbook and I am so happy because it is the first laptop I've owned, and OS X is awesome with media. Like when editing photos in iPhoto it is so easy and fast. I still use both pc and mac, but I am buying a iMac pretty soon. Bye Bye Windows... Oh the only bad thing is the price I'm just a teenager and shelling out $1300 for this laptop wasn't fun at all, but in the long run I'm glad I did it.

If you want a better OS experience, go with Mac.
If you want a better value, go with a WIndows based PC. If you want more software support, go PC. If you want better gaming, go PC. If you like viruses and spyware, go PC. ![]() iPhoto is NOT a reason to shell out so much extra cash, and Macs do not handle media any better than Windows anymore. So it boils down to personal taste, needs, and your wallet. |

Red or blue, Chevy or ford, Fender or Gibson, Dell or Hp..... and on and on. PC or Mac. I believe it is a matter of choice. Both have their advocates and detractors. Weigh everything and make the best choice for you. Good Luck!

I bought a Mac Mini (for a project) and I love it.
I still use my pc for general browsing and stuff but love to show off the Mini to people who come here complaining about their PCs! :D |

I have the impression that a Mac is more turnkey than a PC. I hate how I have to know so much to keep my PC working well. I am always spending long hours confused trying to clean off crap and find out what the problem is this time. Also there is too much software to choose from, and too many options for somebody like me who wants to explore them all. I want my life away from the computer back.
So, will a Mac let me just use the computer without the huge learning curves every time I use a new software? It would be worth the extra cost if this all just got EASIER! (It's not like I am a newbie; my first PC had 16K on the motherboard.) |

Can you remind me, how many run in Windows? Wait, i can't hear you. Did you say ALL OF THEM? I thought so. ![]() There should always be an easy out with computers. Like cars, they are tools. Not everyone wants to spend their time learning them, if they dont have to. There are car geeks, there are computer geeks. These people crave learning curves. In truth, OS X can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be. Lazy has nothing to do with it. Priorities in life do. |

Agreed. Too many stupid answers lately and bans are coming. Answer with knowledge and facts, or shut up. It reflects poorly on us and I will not allow it.

Various PC OSes and hardware all have their place, in the design areas PCs have caught up with MACs a fair bit over the years, but if your professionally doing design then its wise to use the prodomiment hardware/software of choice for continuity, and in design MACs are still prefered choice.
Are they better that PCs, NO but are PCs better than MACs, NO both fufill a need, depends what you need is. Adryn is right MACs and Linux do have the edge over PCs in the world of malware, its a fact, whats not fact is MACs could not be infected with malware, they will in time, just depends if the market share in Mac users grows and makes it worthwile for the malware writers to target it. off tangent slightly, but many think Firefox keeps you safe from malware better than IE, well it doesnt, if it did why then do many in the malware forum that are using Firefox as main browser infected? advertising and false info. To Lyn, wether to go MAC or not depends on all the things you wish to use your computer for, some things are not availabe on MACs ( some games as I note you play games ) software is more expensive, hardware is more expensive to repair, but I woudl suggest making a list of what you wish to use a PC for and weigh pros and cons.

Hi again,
I did have an oportunity to explore a friends Mac. One thing I don't believe it did was to identify an icon when you hold the mouse arrow over it, I find this very helpful. drag and drop editing where you can add music, photos and video was impressive. It didn't seem to be blazing fast to the internet, it had some type of wireless remote mountaintop connection, I have cox. I'm still undecided, I plan on visiting a Mac store. The OS seemed possible. My 2 friends that have them love them. I can see from this forum that they do have problems! I'm still undecided, 50 cents or half a dollar?? Lyn Last edited by lyn; 03-15-07 at 11:50.. To Nitecrawler:
I appreciate all the helpful answers I've received. I just feel the need to respond to your cheerful comments: "You just have to know what your doing! If your looking for an 'easy out' with computers...... You must take the time to be competent with anything you do in life. But hey, If your lazy....buy a Mac!" I want to let you know that I do take the time to be competent with many things I do in life, but not with EVERYTHING I do in life. I am not lazy. However, I have to wonder why you communicate in English without knowing what "your" doing. I have spent years learning correct English and recommend that you need to know what "you are" doing if you want to use the language. The contraction is "you're". I really don't care how you express yourself, but remember that when you point a finger there are several pointing back at you, as they say. If you need any help with German, Portuguese, or Greek, in addition to English, just let me know. I would be glad to share my expertise. Oh, that's right ... this whole website is about people who are willing to share their expertise without ridiculing others. Thanks again to ALL the wonderful people I have learned to rely on through the great help I have always found with MajorGeeks.com. I love you guys and gals. RAM |

I never ignore anyone.....no PM's in my inbox!
The point i am trying to make is that you should not lead your students into believing that any OS is completely safe from malware! I have used windows now for over ten years and have not had any run in's with malware, but hey, i took the time (many months of study) to make it my point to learn about malicious software, its traits, its targets, its strengths and its weaknesses. I made it my priority to learn how to secure my PC, and avoid all the obvious pitfalls associated with it. To say that if you like viruses and spyware, go for PC, is the most ridiculous comment i have heard in years (you must be kidding MA).....it might come from someone who is a close friend of yours and who may have 12000+ posts on your site, but please, spare me the insults. And by the way RAM.....I know plenty about the english language, and only try to advise those who are green colored with 6 posts! Trust me my friend....I know what im doing, and if you found my comments a little bit offensive, i didnt mean it that way..... get over it, grow up and learn. Magical spells for your problems do not exist! @MA....he can say what he did and i cant? What gives? Quote:

As a PC guy wanting to be a Mac guy I would say the reason I want to switch is because for the last umpteen years I have been promised a great OS that meets my needs and for all this time Windows has not delivered on that promise. Yes XP was solid, but it was also full of wholes. It didn't crash as much as earlier versions of windows but it had a great many wholes. Vista seems to be the Windows Millenium version of XP. All flash and no dash.
SO for me I am willing to give Jobs and company a shot, and try out their OS for a few years. The down side for me is the price. I have a lot of money sunk into PC stuff, and I cannot get anyone to buy it, because many of them are afraid of Vista or they are going Mac as well. Anyway I have been asking myself the same questions you have about the mac or pc thing and I guess it is as someone else said one half dozen of the other.

Try it out first. Its an exepensive decision to buy it, and find out you don't like it.

Where is it possible to try out a Mac system? I mean are there places that will let you borrow a Mac? I wish
