for 1200 dollars you can put together a kickass computer..
i could make a list of the things you/she would want/need if you wanted me to? just need a little info is she a gamer? how much storage you think she would need? what would it be used for and is it ok if i go below 1200$ its hard to go above 1200 unless you want a 512mb video card.. does she already have any of the other parts? monitor mouse keyboard.. etc |

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz - link
ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i - link G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - link COOLER MASTER RS-500-ASAA Power Supply - link SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - link BFG Tech GeForce 7600GT - link This came out to be $1088.95 after instant rebates at newegg. There is a little room money wise for peripherals, a case etc. If you don't need the graphics power at all, you can replace the motherboard with one that has an integrated graphics chip and remove the 7600GT to free up even more cash for Vista or anything else you may need. I just did a quick search and came up with what you see here, but it's a smoking fast rig for the price. Especially if she doesn't plan on doing any gaming. Good luck :-) Edit: If you want a sleek, quite case, take a look at Antec's Solo. I just picked one up and I'm in love with it.

The CoolerMaster Centurion is a very nice case, and I think it is still pretty cheap on sites like Newegg. It can get a bit crowded in there, but I still love it, and I am building my next system with it. The tool-less drive bays are awesome... I can switch out sound cards and video cards without having to worry about toolsof any kind, like screwdrivers. Very nice.
I'll keep that case as long as it keeps together. And it was only $35. ![]() /Mimsy
