Print server CANNOT FIND !! Can anyone tell me why this is? I have used the installation disc wizard and it cannot find the linksys unit, I have switched it on and off, rebooted, re-installed print server drivers. everything I can think of. The whole idea of a printer server that it does not communicate with the Laptop directly, they communicate to the Wireless Hub/Router, and any computer that can connect to the Hub (wire or wirelessly) can print to the Network Printer.
For some reason your Wireless Printer can not connect to the Wireless Hub. You have to log to the HUb and find out in the Wireless section why it is so. I do not have manual of you Hub so it is hard to help further.

Is your printer connected to your router by USB or LPT? If it is, install printer driver on your laptop using printer disk. Use the IP port assigned by your router. You should be able to find this info in your router manual. If you're using printer installation wizard disc, it will not find the linksys unit. Don't worry. It's not supposed to. Finish installing the driver, and configure the port later. Good Luck |

hi xray.
I don't know if you read the site carefully or not, but the link you sent me states, "One trick I feel they’ve missed is using the Hub as a print server, but discussing this with BT’s, they suggest that this is something that could be introduced later, via a software update." This is telling me that this hub DOES NOT support printer server function yet. Unless they updated and deployed the updated software, you will not be able to use this hub as printer server. Now, that being said, what I am not sure about is your network configuration. You have broadband isp. so you should have some type of modem they provided. right? and this BT is connected to the modem for NAT/Gateway/Wireless service. Is this correct? or do you have another Linksys router before this BT hub? |

The BT hub 'IS' the modem and I was told by the shop where I bought the Linksys for him that I could use it with a BT hub. I feel a bit of a HOMER lol for not reading the site on the link i sent you better, I just wanted you to see what my brother had. Can you suggest a possible way round this I could try? or something? Thanks for all your interest and help so far.

It must be a Combo Mode/Wireless Router otherwise the Laptop would not be able to connect to it.
You have to find the manual and use it to connect to the Hub and configure it to work with the Wireless Printer Server.

So, from what you're telling me, your configuration is this: BT(modem) to Linksys (wireless router) to Your Laptop. Correct? If not, it should be. Your Linksys router should take care of NAT/Gateway/Routing service FROM BT modem (provided from ISP?) and give you access to the wireless network. Now, if you took care of that, your printer should be connected to LINKSYS router by USB port. NOT the BT modem. Linksys router you bought, can take care of printing servicing and sharing. You can find the info at: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...VisitorWrapper You basically connect the printer to USB, install driver, and assign dedicated port the router gives out. USE the WIZARD they provide, or read the manual. It looks pretty simple. |
