Default back up of win98 data wont show on winXP

Hi guys, anyone know how to view data stored on flash drive from a win98 computer and corresponding stored data?
The vendor of a piece of equipment I have could not get it to work on winXP, so I just bought an old lap top running win98. Now I would like to view my picture data on my XP at home.
Suggestions?

I have one of those 1 gig USB 'flash drive' I thought it was called. You plug the thing in to the USB port and it's recognized and you can transfer files to it. So I plugged it into the laptop at work that runs on Win 98 and brought it home and plugged it into my home computer. I can see there is data there but can't seem to run the program. So, I brought the floppy discs home and the program wouldn't load from it. So, how can I view the files at home. They are a picture file and I will try to figure out what it is called for you.

As long as you can copy the data from the flash drive to your HD, it means that these files have nothing to do with the OS they come from. Maybe you just tried to open the pix by clicking on them and no program associated to do it..

Yes I agree but thats the problem. I can't load the program onto winXP because its only written for 98. Therefore, I can't open the pictures. Is there a way to install the program? Is there a way while running XP to have specific programs opened that are written for intallation under the 98 OS. I guess it must be something like running a computer in safe mode.

With a right click on the .exe file you can make it compatible with an older OS (95, 98 etc) by selecting in the tab the desired option. But image files don't need to be compatible, only the programs in charge to open them. You should be able to open any jpg or tif or bmp as well no matter the OS it has been written with. In case you may want to run a specific image viewer, XP is designed to support even old 16bits apps. You could experience troubles only in the way a win98 app would call missing exported code from an XP library, but it rarely occurs with standalone programs.
