    Hello,
I'm hoping that someone will either have a similar problem or be able to identify the issue. I have an Acer aspire 3000 laptop and recently have been having some trouble with it. The computer started to freeze at the login and screen and if i was able to get my password in the computer would then freeze after logging in. At first i thought it would have been a spyware or virus problem but i reinstalled the OS and the same problem occurred. I then brought it to my campus tech place and they did some updates and said that it was fine...non the less it wasn't. Oddly enough i found out that if i take the battery out before i start the computer it runs like a champ, plug the battery in while it is running the computer will continue to run fine, but if the battery is in while i start the computer then it is going to freeze. Unfortunately it is just out of warranty and after filling complaints with acer the best they will do is look at it for 300...kind of ridiculous if you ask me. I don't think it is a heat issue, just because the computer runs fine with the battery in after starting up without it in. Any other thoughts....new motherboard is my next guess considering i ran a RAM tester which passed and a Hard drive test which all passed.

    Thanks

Perhaps the battery isn't handling the startup load...it would be cheaper to try a new battery, as opposed to a new motherboard.

Any suggestions where to buy a battery?...should i go directly with Acer or would it be reasonable to try somewhere else?

I would start with acer...just so you know you aren't getting screwed...if they are assinine in price...then look elswhere, starting with big name retailers, like tiger direct or new egg, etc., etc.!!

Did you ever find out if it was the battery or the notebook? A buddy at work is having me work on his notebook (Aspire 3000) and the symptoms are exactly the same.

yes it did turn out to be the battery. An easy way to check is to take the battery out completely and run the computer with it plugged into the wall.
