x-fi broken, virus maybe?

i had a x-fi sound card and i also had a virus, i know that some viruses can kill your dvd-rw drives and so-on by flashing there firmware and corrupting it, but can the same happen with sound cards? the same virus also removed my dvd-rws, from my computer although they were still in device manager they were just invisible from anywhere else, they still worked when i re-installed the os, but the sound card never did, i put it in my other two pcs, and it doesnt work there either, window detects a multimedia audio controller, but when i install drivers for it they fail at about 80% though the installation process, any ideas would be great thankyou..... :major i-CONICA :major
