Taking a L O N G Time For My Computer To Display Drives ?!

It seems my rig is taking a very long time to find the drives when I click on "My Computer." Upwards of two minutes. I have no idea what is going on. I do recall a physical dump of memory blue screen the last two times that has happened. I can't for sure say the two are related, as I only vaguely remember the crashes. I will take mental not the next time I get a crash.

My XP is fully up to date. So, what gives?

Possible causes are very wide and include
Loose internal data cable
Drive(s) wearing out
Virus
failing ide controllor on motherboard
Internal dust clogging causing one or more of the above.
