web cam questions.

i am running an hp pavilion lap top which has a built in web cam.
On this computer i am running the program AIM. An instant messaging program which also is compatible with video chat.
My question is or my problem is... When i connect with another user who is Using AIM and we connect to use video chat. My buddy is unable to see my images.
I have used my web cam before with windows movie maker so i know the cam itself works. The question is why is the other user unable to see what im filiming?
When i am using aim's video chat i am also able to see what im filming since when u connect with aim video chat it allows u to see what ur cam sees. So again why is my buddy unable to see what im filming he/she sees all black.
