Hi all, I'm running XP media center ed. I have recently (03-13-07) installed 3 microsoft updates to my hp a1310n desktop. when I tried to shutdown after updates the pc appeared to freeze so I manually held the power button down to turn off the machine. Now when I turn the pc on it takes me to the menu with "safe mode" "last known good config." "start windows normally" "recovery" No matter which option I choose it appears the os is going to load then it will shut down and bring right back to the same options menu. I've tried safe mode, w/networking, w/cmd prompt, last known good config & start win normally none will fully load just shutdown then I'm back to the same screen. I can get into the recovery console however, I don't know dos well enough to troubleshoot from this command promt menu. I don't know what to do from here. I'm an intermediate user but if I can't get into windows I'm lost. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well, I don't know anything else to do besides doing a repair installation of Windows XP.

If you boot from your XP Disc, it will load a bunch of drivers, press enter to continue into installation, press F8 for agreement, then you should have the option to do a repair of your XP Installation, and you would press "r".

Note: The repair installation runs the XP Installation again but you do not lose your personal information, only the system files are overwritten.

Thanks Sq. that's an option. The MCE disc didn't come with the pc when I bought it and I've partitioned it since the recovery disc was created. Do you think a XP Pro disc would work? Or... is there a way to complete a system restore from the command prompt... could that even work?

tried both of the suggestions below, neither worked. when I used the disk the repair feature just takes me to the recovery console. I can't get into any safe modes and the cmd prompt restore isn't working from the recovery console. hmm...

I have now created a new boot sector that didn't solve the problem. The stop error is: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XBAAC8750, 0XBACC3430, 0XBACC312C.) It appears the 007E error is pretty generic I've googled it and didn't find any solutions for my specific problem. Still thinking here... please holla at me if you have any ideas.

I'm still stuck ya'll. I'm able to use bart pe to get in and see my files and folders. I don't know where the problem is. The boot process will get to the "WINDOWS XP EDITION" and there's a animated loading bar below that text, just before the splash screen it shuts down and restart again.
