Windows Security Alerts

    I have WinXP Pro SP2 and i dont want the firewall given with SP2 and i don't want to install an anti-virus program and i have disabled Automatic Updates. Now a red shield with an 'x' on it appears on my taskbar is there anyway i can disable that without having to install all the stuff its telling me??

    Yes disable the Security Center service ( Admin Tools > Services )


    also dont know in XP now if there is a notification turn off option, as Vistas Security Center has, open security center and look for "Change the way security center alerts me" and choose "dont notify me and dont display icon" as I say I dont have an XP PC to hand to check this, but disabling the Security Center service will stop it.
