Blue screen of death - or annoyance anyway

I have not done anything to my PC lately, but the past few days I keep getting a "VXD IOS(04)" error when Windows 98 boots. I have used Norton Utils and Dr. Watson and still can't get a clean boot. Any suggestions of ideas as to what this error means?

450 MHz
352Mb
WIN 98 SP-1

 

video driver would be my guess. .... but seriously, I know the first question the other geeks will ask is "What kind of error" ... "What does it say?"

I know when I ran into old driver problems with 9x, I was often able to bypass the error (the driver or file issue was usually from a device or program that I had removed) by going into the offending file and commenting it out. .... rem or the ";" semi-colon for the ini files.

 

This message appears after windows has loaded almost all of the drivers and profile info. No changes have been made to the setups and all of a sudden the error message appears.

The exact message is:

Windows
A fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:C02BC5E7 in VXD IOS(04) +
000005B3. The current application will be terminated.

<then it gives the standard press any key to continue or CTRL ALT DELETE to reboot>

Thanks, I reall yneed to relocate to a place where my dial-up conection is long distance, then I can surf to my hearts content. Thanks for the help

Attempted to follow the message from MS, result: file not found!

Oh, boy... getting new SB16.vxd driver now.... hope this works!

 

Got driver placed in the Windows/system folder and it still is not working.

Checked my kids' machine and the file does not exist on their's either, and it does not have a problem booting.

After doing some research, it appears that this issue is related to A driver not working correctly. So, is there anyway you can tell us the hardware in your PC as listed in the device manager?

I have noticed that my parallel port ZIP 100 drive disappeared and is now back as a SCSI device, and my CD-ROM is appearing as drive F: (was D when I open My Computer, the properties from device manager still show it as D:

uninstall all things that are Iomega, reboot and then reinstall it ..

hello everybody I need help. my computer just crash blue death screen with 0x000000b4 ( 0x82ad6df8 0x82a35000 ox82a34000 0x00050000 appears no safe mode not cdrom nothing. dont allow me to do anything..can you help me?..thank you so much.. windows xp pro
