windows installer loads every time internet explorer tries to open a page

Hello, I am having an issue where every time I try to start internet explorer a dialogue box pops up saying that windows installer is perparing to install. It just sits there for about 15 seconds or more and then explorer finally loads. When I click on any link that brings up a new page it does the same thing. I have tried the msicuu2.exe that I have seen in other forums but it does nothing. Acoording to those forums it says that you should be able to select a program from a list and this program will somehow fix it. When I run the program it just goes through some process automatically without me being able to select anything and then says it is finished.

I have tried to uninstall office 2003 and my computer says it cannot remove the program because a patch is missing. I tried restoring to an earlier date hoping that would fix it but that did nothing and is now confusing me even more.

Any advice would be appreciated. Hijack this log is attached if that helps

 

It looks like you have 2 Security software installed, Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition and Norton Internet Security.

Which one do you still use?

I am using avast. I uninstalled norton but when i did a system restore it showed up again. i unintalled it again but i'm not sure if everything is gone.

Check event viewer for a source of msi or windows installer, post the messages you find, double click the entries for a description.

For future reference, please attach hjt logs in a text file, not within the post.

 

OK,I had this problem with windows installer,and you should try a program called Dial-a-fix.

 

I tried dial a fix but it didn't do anything. I am going to try to attach the event viewr log file as a text file. I am not super saavy when it comes to some things.

 

I saved the event viewer as a text file and then clicked the paperclip icon and found the file and clicked upload but it didn't work. I will try it one more time just to see what happens.

I think I see the problem. The text file on the event viewer is larger than the allowed size. I am just giving a part of the log. There are hundreds of the same error messages so maybe that will help.
