CD burns but reads blank!

I used Sonic to burn a CD of a video clip that I got online using Firefox (thanks to the great advice from the group). Then I converted into mpg using AnyVideoConverter (again, thanks). Then I dragged it into a blank CD which repeatedly causes a "must format disc" box which I then do. It saves, I go and put the CD into a desktop computer and it reads blank!! I put it into anothe Dell laptop and it reads fine in MediaPlayer. All the desktops have MediaPlayer only.

Then, I downloaded FinalBurner from MG and burned a CD that way. Now the machines on Media Player recognize a CD with info is plugged in but when I start Media Player, it says there is an unexpected problem with the file.

Is it a matter of codec? Do I need to try another burner?

I would agree but when it happens to three desktops, I think there must be another issue. I was thinking since they all have Media Player, wouldn't that leave a hardware issue? I mean could it be the video cards? The Dells are less than a year old while the desktops are closer to 2 or 3 years old. The desktops also have an issue in that when you view a video stream online, the pictures come out looking techno-color. I mean they are seriously pixel'd and blotches of yellow, green and red rather than a real picture of anything.
