Three of my friends are experiencing the same problem. They all have XP and all have dell computers (2 are laptops). All are getting the bsod regularly.
I was helping one friend and we were able to get to the last known good configuration a few times. I was able to run the Dell laptop's diagnostic utility. There apparently is no hardware problem. I ran 3 online scans, spybot, ccleaner, adaware and superantispyware
I am finding sidestep and softomate. and one found p3j.exe but couldn't clean it.
I wonder if there is anything out there that is causing this issue.
It seems odd that 3 unrelated people living in the local area are having the same issue.
Any ideas?

whats the error code on the bsods?

one has :
0x0000005, 0x80585271, 0xBA4CBIE8, 0xBA4CAEE4
Another is
Stop c000021a Failed system error
another is:
0x0000007E (0x0000005,0x805C607B,0xF89ED93C,0XF89ED638
