Error installing .NET Framework 2.0

Attached is a .zip of the error message I'm getting. I've tried installing it from Windows Update, I've tried the re-distributable, and I've tried an .msi version that goes online and downloads the needed files/data. They all error out at the same point with the same message. This PC also won't install ANY updates. They download just fine, but won't install. There's no error message when trying to install the updates, it just says "the following updates were not installed...." and then lists 'em all.... So- I have 2 problems: the .NET and updates. Any help will be appreciated!

Oh yeah- Windows XP MCE SP2

 

Disable the anti-virus.

There is no antivirus on the PC (yet- Norton was recently removed). I used Dial-A-Fix to repair Windows Update, and that worked: all the updates are now installed. Still can't get .NET to install, same error as posted eariler. Any other ideas??? Could there be a leftover Norton setting blocking VB scripts as it appears that the prolem is related to Visual Basic... I'm by no means an expert on such matters, and that's why I'm here.... THANX!

I would still run the removal tool, just to make sure.

Problem solved. I downloaded something called 'subinalc.msi' from Microsoft after reading a blog relating to the same error I was having. There was also a link to a '.NET_CleanUp_Tool.exe' which I ran also. So .NET 2.0 is now installed :celebrate
If anyone is interested, I'll try to track down the links and post 'em if needed.
