Okay, from what I can gather from the non "I hate Vista" people, the one thing that is a problem, mostly irritating, is that certain programs that aren't recognized by Vista will pop up a security warning asking you to verify that you want to actually run it. For example, I'm using Maxthon as a browser and evertime I want to use it, Vista pops up asking me if I trust it. And I don't see anyway to convince it that I do so that it won't keep asking me every time. As I said, annoying. I recently tried Opera, but had nothing but problems with it on Vista. Don't get me wrong, I like Vista so far. It has it's little idiosyncracies, but so did XP and the others when they came out. I just wonder if they will decide to give us the chance to help Vista not ask me every frickin' time I want to use certain apps.
P.S. This version of Vista came with the new laptop I bought, so there's no confusion as to whether or not I tried to cross over on an old computer.

UAC: settings>control panel>user accounts>turn user account control off.

Turning UAC off will yes indeed allow you not to have those messages, but also it will allow any malware you may get to install too, but choice is yours.

Thing with UAC and many softwares ( I dont mean the likes of Control Panel applications that may throw up a UAC warning as that will always happen as its a security feature to stop the changing of many core components, but not as if wew go into control panel too much apart from the initial setup of the PC ) is that they have not been written correctly to be allowed by UAC automatically.

Have you also tried to see if Maxthon is listed in the Control Panel > Programs> Set Default Programs if so set it as default as it may get around that, if its not in the list then that browser needs updating.

I think I'd rather not upset the UAC right now, but thanks. As for it being listed as a default program, it is. So I guess I can just live with this for now. I may approach Microsoft (good luck) about this, but I don't expect miracles. Thanks for the suggestions though, it's what makes this site so great for those of us without our IT degrees trying to live in this electronic world.

Aha! However, your other idea seemed to do the trick. Despite the fact that I had just downloaded Maxthon a few weeks ago, it appears I didn't check for a newer update available. Silly how they have an update but have you download an older version first. I'll never understand it all, but why should I? It's more interesting this way. Anyway, I updated Maxthon and now no security warning. Sweet. Thanks again for your help people.
