I'm an experienced graphic designer and can use 2D packages such as Photoshop and Illustrator very well, but I have never attempted Motion graphic design. I have seen many examples that I would like to be able to do myself, such as the James Bond titles (Casino Royale for instance), WWE Pay-Per-View logos/RAW/SmackDown titles and to a lesser extent, shopping TV animated graphics etc.

What I would like to know is, what software packages are available to do this kind of thing and which would you recommend? What is the industry standard? Which are good for beginners etc?

    Thank you.

Cinema 4D. Possibly the easiest high-end graphic system and has been around for a very long time (Amiga computers). The company has demo versions on their website.

There's also Maya, LightWave, 3D Studio Max, Final Cut Pro...

The "Cinema Standards" are After Effects by Adobe, and Shake by Apple. Knowing those two programs will get you work. Cinema 4D is becoming pretty popular too.

Thank you both for the information. I'll be looking into learning Adobe After Effects and I'll also check out Cinema 4D. Thank you.

There's actually a plugin that just came out for After Effects which links Cinema 4D. That should definitely be a powerful combination.
