I've had major malware issues for a couple of months now...wiped out a big chunk of the issues with VindoFix, but still had problems with an annoying yahabags search redirect from yahoo.com. Stumbled on to your threads, performed BASIC COMPUTER MAINTENANCE, performed MALWARE REMOVAL, and now I am here for your most generous assistance. This posting contains the following attachments:

    bdscan.txt
    Activescan.txt
    CounterSpy.txt

In the next reply I will attach further requested files. Please let me know if I have neglected to provide any expected info, and accept my apoligies for the negligence. I thank you in advance for your help...

In this first reply I have attached the remainder of the requested txt/log files:

    runkeys.txt
    newfiles.txt
    hijackthis.log

Please advise what my next steps should be and, again, heart-felt thanks for the generous assistance...

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
Sunbelt CounterSpy <--- we are finished with this trial now
My Way Search Assistant <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4AE55BE7-D9B6-4829-9211-26F7DAE085A8} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {845A28C5-C00C-4F2A-BD63-057EE529505c} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nrnrpihd.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe"

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Thanks for your kind welcome, and your kind assistance, chaslang. Here's what I can tell you:
    1) Uninstalled everything you requested except the My Way Search Assistant, which I could not find (though I did notice myway items in the HijackThis fixes you had me do). I'm embarrased that I couldn't find it (or anything that seemed related) under Add/Remove Programs...is there another name I should have been looking for, for future sake?

    2) Ran HijackThis as you advised

    3) Downloaded and ran The Avenger as you advised

    4) Re-ran GetRunKey and ShowNew, as well as HijackThis to generate new logs.

    5) Attempted several Yahoo! searches and didn't seem to encounter any yahabags redirects.

    6) Have not run step 8 yet...am waiting for your blessing to do so, assuming after you re-examine the attached files...

Have attached avenger.txt, hijackthis.log and newfiles.txt to this posting, and will add runkeys.txt to the following posting.

Again, thanks for your amazing assistance, my friend!

Let's locate it and manually delete it. Run the below and attach the log:

Getting Uninstall Programs List From The Registry

    Everything else looks fine.

    Okay I see why you may not have found it. They did not name the install key My Way Search Assistant. They named it {78D944D7-A97B-4004-AB0A-B5AD06839940}

Do you see that in Add/Remove Programs? If so try uninstalling it.

If you don't see the above or it will not uninstall. Just do the below:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Then attach a new log from ShowNew.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, and the C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
