I have two laptops, one has a core 2 and the other a Celeron M I was clocking the two to see which had the faster browser (was testing firefox vs Ie6) and I was disturbed to find the Celeron M did.

I have (on average) 70 Process running! On the core 2 duo laptop...And, I'm pretty sure that's bad. I had previously done the READ & RUN ME FIRST guide, and gotten rid of some stuff. Link to that page: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1017068&posted=1#post1017068

Can someone help me clean up all these processes? I don't know how to proceed here.:confused

Are you wanting to remove startup processes? We can't control what processes are running, only you can do that by closing unneeded running programs.

You can post a HJT log and we can remove any unecessary startup items but that's about it.

Hmm, thats a little discourageing. I'm not trying to remove startup processes Im trying to cut down on the number of process running on my comuter in order to optimize speed.
You know? The ones you see when you ctrl alt del- first tab "Processes" There isn't something I can run that will spit out a logfile of all process currently running for you to analyse?
I do use Nortons, and adaware 2007- and I know Nortons is a resourse hog. But thre must be something I can do, isn't there?

    Hi Tweak-Hunter!
Sorry for your computer difficulties. I think your computer problems are not malware-related and that you would get the help you need a lot faster by asking in the Software Forum. There are programs which allow you to see what's running on your computer and they are things you can download here at Majorgeeks, but it's helpful to have people to talk to about what you're trying to do so that you end up getting the diagnostic tool that will give you the information you want.
Don't want to run you off, but I read your other thread and I think you'd get help faster over there trying to get your settings back in order.

Abri is correct, this isn't malware related and it would be best to post this in the Software Forum.

    Good Luck!:major
