Default To scam or not to scam; that is the question.

I need some counsel on THIS SITE which purports to sell a software which makes it possible to receive SAT TV over the Internet. The only way that I can see this being possible is if they have a bunch of servers receiving the SAT downlink and then rebroadcasting it using a scrambled signal. They would then sell the descrambling software to the suck ... um, I mean ... customers.

The F-I-L wants to watch TV on his PC but he is leery of this type of offering because he thinks it may be nothing but a phishing expedition to glean CC numbers. I told him to simply use a Visa prepaid gift card which runs like a CC and give that to them if he is so darned curious. His retort then is "But it will cost $50 to find out."

Anyone out there heard anything about this type of thing and, if so, is it legit?

From reading on another forum the satellite to PC charges you for software, a ripoff to use the words that other posters used, which you can do free if you visit one of the internet tv sites. I'm not sure if all these sites are still active.
Code:
http://www.channelking.com/index.php
http://wwitv.com/portal.htm
http://www.gooya.co.uk/worldtv.html
http://www.see.tv/
http://www.internettvlist.com/
http://www.global-itv.com
http://www.viewmy.tv
www.myp2p.eu (fpr pro sports)
www.movieforumz.com (seems to be a forum for finding sources for tv show and movies online
If you go here
Code:
http://www.tvunetworks.com/
and download a free player you can watch tv.

Tell him to save his money and not fall for the satellite to PC software.

Thanks, guys. I couldn't argue with that "It will cost $50" logic. Looks like it would have been money thrown down a s--- hole.

Thanks again,

J
