Default Vista/XP dual boot HELP!!!

I have a 2nd PC for my daughters that has Vista on it. none of their older games will run w/ Vista. So, I tried to set up a dual boot. following instructions from some forum I got the 2nd partition set up and booted from the XP (home edition) CD. everything goes fine until it reaches the 'Installing Windos' part of the setup. Every time it reaches 'Setup will complete in approximately 34 minutes' it just locks up. I tried some bootloader fix but I don't think I'm even to that point yet. I've been dinking with this all day and am getting no where. does anyone know what's happening, what I can/should do???? start over somehow?

thanks a ton and an early Merry Christmas to everyone! (including Chaslang, still very much appreciate his help a few months ago).

The first link will explain to you the possible problems you may have because of the different OSes needing different boot files (XP needs boot.ini and ntldr while Vista uses totally different files). The other two links are step-by-step instructions, with a very liberal use of helpful screenshots, that will show you how to install XP on a PC with Vista already loaded....
Good luck!
and Happy Holidays!

Thanks dlb. The apcstart link is the one I followed to begin with. I'll try the other 2 and see if I can get somewhere today.
