    Hello

I can no longer view embeded videos on the yahoo.co.uk website. Either the Music /Sports Or news. The page loads and I click on play but nothing happens. I have contacted Yahoo but not got a great deal of help

I am running windows XP Pro
    Internet explorer 7
I have the latest version of media player, Flash and quicktime.
I have tried without my firewall on and also without spyware and antivirus on !!! just in case the real time scanner was affecting something.

The strange thing is i can normally play embeded videos on any other websites IE Sky Sports, You Tube Etc.

I have checked the system for spyware and virus's using adaware, spyware terminator and AVG.

I'm sure it must just be one setting that is wrong but I really can't find it

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The following answer provides solutions for playing Music Videos and
streaming LAUNCHcast radio. Please read thoroughly if the nature of
    your
query relates to diffculty using on Yahoo! LAUNCH.

Do you have the latest version of Windows Media Player?
    ----
Try installing the latest released version of the Windows Media Player.
    Please follow the directions below:

    1. Go to the following URL:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/Download/default.asp

    2. Select the version from the drop-down box that corresponds to your
Operating System, then click on the "Download Now" button. Note: Do not
    select any version labeled "BETA".

    3. In the File Download dialog box, select "Save this program to disk,"
    and then click "OK".

    4. You are now presented with a "Save As" window (if you are not
experienced at downloading software, the best place to put files is on
    the Desktop.)

    5. Save the file on the Desktop and do not change the name of the file.

    6. Once you have established where the file is being saved, click the
"Save" button. Depending on your modem speed, the download time may
vary. Take note of the file name as you will need to reference the file
    once download is complete.

    7. Once the download is complete, you are ready to install the player.
Close all applications before proceeding with the player installation.

    8. The file you saved is located on your desktop, look for the file and
double-click it to activate the installation.

    9. When the security warning appears, click "Yes" to continue
    installing.

    10. The program will display an End User License Agreement, click "Yes"
    if you agree to comply.

    11. After installing the initial program files, specify your Internet
    connection speed. Choose between 14.4K, 19.2K, 28.8K, 56KModem/ISDN,
112K Modem/Dual-ISDN, T1/LAN, or Unknown/Other. If you do not know your
connection speed, ask your network administrator or refer to your modem
    documentation.

    Are you behind a firewall?
    ----
Yahoo! LAUNCH streaming services are not accessible when your
    connection
is protected through a firewall. In order to use this service you need
    to disable the firewall.

When your operating system is Windows XP
    ----
Windows XP has a firewall that is active by default when your Shared
Internet Connection is configured. This may also be enabled at the
factory if you purchased your computer with a network card installed.
This firewall can be disabled; however, firewalls prevent unauthorized
intrusions to your computer. If you are using high-speed Internet
    access
such as DSL or a Cable Modem, you would have a greater chance of
unauthorized intrusions to your computer, because these particular
connections are always connected to the Internet. You may want the
    protection a firewall provides.

To disable the Windows XP firewall, please follow these steps:

    1. Right-click "My Network Places" and select "Properties".

    2. Select the connection associated with your Internet access (modem or
    LAN connection).

    3. Right-click on the selected connection and select "Properties".

    4. Select the "Advanced" tab and uncheck the box for Firewall.

    5. Click "OK".

For advanced users, as an alternative to disabling the firewall, you
    can
manually open the specific ports used by our streaming servers.
Instructions on how to manually enable ports can be found in this
Microsoft Knowledge Base article, located at:

    http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q308127

LAUNCHcast uses standard Windows Media Player streaming servers. The
ports and protocols used are documented here:

The most common cause of this is pop-up blockers. Try turning off
    pop-up
blockers in your browser, in toolbar applications, and security
software. Once turned off, you should be able to view the Video Player.
You can also add Yahoo! videos to the pop-up blockers list of allowed
sites. Just enter: http://uk.music.yahoo.com in the allowed sites
    field.

Another reason could be that your system does not meet the minimum
system requirements for the player. Check the information below, and
insure that your system is compatible. If not, the player may not
    function.

    (PC)
    Windows XP or 2000
    IE 6.0 or greater
    Firefox 5.0 or greater
Windows Media Player 9 or greater
    Flash player 8 or greater

    (Mac)
    OS X
    IE 6.0 or greater
    Firefox 5.0 or greater
    Safari 1.2 or greater
    Flash player 8 or higher
    Quicktime 7.0 or greater
    flip4Mac 1.0 or higher

Finally, you may not have the new Video player installed. Yahoo! does
not automatically install applications to your computer. If you click a
video link from the site, and are prompted to update or upgrade the
player software, accept this option. Then, once the new application is
installed, you should be able to watch videos.

Have you tried a diffrent browser? Maybe opera or firefox. Give one of thoes a shot and see if that fixes the issue. If so it must be i.e. 7. Also make sure you have java, and flash player installed. I am sorry. I just dont use i.e. 7 . Myself I use opera. Just thought I would offer a idea or 2. If you like i.e. really well, maxthon browser may be another browser to try.

What about other websites. Do videos work ok for you there?? www.break.com and see if one of thoes videos may work? Or youtube video? www.youtube.com. Do videos there work for you? Could be a yahoo issue and not a issue with your puter.

    Hello
Thanks for the advice. I need to use internet explorer 7 for some of the software we use. I have been told that these companies will only give technical support for Internet explorer and not other browsers.

The videos work fine on other websites. I've tried both those you suggested and they both work fine.

1 thing I have noticed is that on yahoo the videos don't seem to be streaming at all (normally the little bar comes up saying either streaming or buffering).

    Many Thanks
