Hi. I have a strange problem with a client's computer(s). We have had a non-stop reboot issue with a couple of their machines. We've checked the power supply (replaced as well - even put it on a battery backup), electrician has come out to inspect the outlet in question, and pretty much everything we can think of has been tried. We figured it might be bad interaction from all the software they have on the machines - quickbooks 2008, wordperfect x3, aol 9+, office 2003 pro, paperport, etc. Here is the hardware list:

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled

Just upgraded her wordperfect x3 program to sp2 in hopes that was the problem, but I know that is is probably not.

This happened with her old computer as well, but not as frequent as now. Any input appreciated - thanks!

The error code 1000008e you have is usually a hardware or driver problem. I would personally suspect a failing RAM chip in the first instance. Try removing all the RAM bar one and see what happens then - if the problem still occurs swap out that RAM for another

dignome - I hope that you have already fixed this problem! :) I have several machines in my office on different wall plugs (electrical circuits to the junction box, I presume). Periodically, one of the 'outlets' will experience a 'glitch', periodically another one of the 'outlets' will experience a glitch. When the 'glitch' occurs, the machine(s) connected to that outlet will reboot! :( I have always assumed that this is due to a 'momentary' voltage drop. If I wanted to confirm this, I would put an 'in line' recording voltage/power monitor to verify this. Also, each of my machines goes through a UPS from which I have removed the motorcycle batteries (I got tired of changing batteries!). When the reboot occurs, the UPS 'still' beeps a continuous tone until the machine begins a reboot (presumably until the voltage level returns.)

You might try (temporarily) using UPS's (with fully charged batteries) on the machine(s) that is(are) misbehaving to see if this helps to fix the problem...Vaughn !:)
