Headset- Mic works no sound thru headphones

    I have a HP Pavilllon and a SONY VAIO Laptop and a Logitech headset. I can get the mic work but the sound still comes thru the speakers. I use VoIP for work and the echo from the speakers is awful. I have checked the Sound setup and it shows the headset as checked.
