I put a new hard drive in and need to know how to get my bookmarks(firefox) and favs (IE), to the new drive. I have the old drive as a slave.
    Thanks and God Bless :confused:confused

IE favorites are here: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Favorites Just copy-n-paste the folder to a new location, or burn it to a CD.
For FireFox, you can export the bookmarks into an .html file, then re-import it. Click Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks and then in the 'Bookmarks Manager' window, click File -> Export. Then browse to the exported list and copy-n-paste or burn the file....

But, is that all going to work under his present situation, where the old drive is setup as a slave drive? That means it's no longer his boot drive. I think the techniques you've mentioned need to be done BEFORE he removed his old drive from the system as a boot drive.

Yea I tried that but not working, I moved the bookmarks from the slave to the new C bookmarks but nothing, more concerned about firefox than ie as I use FF most of the time.
I also tried to import into the new bookmarks but also nothing.
Also noticed that the slave drive now E, is lettered in blue instead of black along with some other selected folders/files, not all of them what's up with that? It was like that before the new drive install.
    Thanks Bruce

So if I make the old drive the boot drive (temporarily) I can then export the bookmarks to a disk, then import them to the new drive?
    Thanks Bruce

Yes, that will work. I'm assuming the old drive was originally in this same computer.

    You could try:

    Close FF.

In Windows Explorer from the Tools menu>Folder Options>on View tab mark the circle Show hidden files.

Then browse to E:\Documents and Settings\Your user name on the old System\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxx.default and copy the bookmarks.html file to your desktop on the new C: drive.

Then Start>Run> type %appdata% in the box and ok. In the window that opens Browse to Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxx.default and rename the version of bookmarks.html found in his folder to bookmarks_old.html. Then move the bookmarks.html from the desktop to this folder.

Open FF and you should have your old bookmarks available.

Go back and and choose Do not Show Hidden Files.

Sounds more complicated than it is... :)

Fwiw, IE favorites can be saved just by going start > right click favorites > open.

Then they open in a folder. Just save that folder to wherever you want.

It doesn't matter where you put them, if you click on one it will open up the link.

I've been saving mine like that for ages.

When I do a fresh install, I save them to a backup drive then drag them back into
the favorites folder when I'm done with the install.

Same thing with Firefox, really. It makes 5 separate backups in the folder found
in Start > my computer > C drive > documents and settings > your personal folder > application data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > odd lettered folder > bookmark backups > Now just save the most recent backup in there, or all of them for that matter.
Click on any link no matter where you save them, and they will open up.
