cat 5 patch cable

    I have a nework cable that says cat5 patch cable on the outside

    they funny thing is that inside the cable are 4 wires, orange, orange-white, blue, and bluewhite

    doesn't a regular cat5 ethernet cable have 8 wires?

    what order would the wires go in the plug on the cable I have?

    Cat5e uses only two pairs.

    So some Ultra Cheapo vendors save a cent or two and use a cable with two pairs only.

    If the cable is 1 foot or two it might be OK, if it is longer Ditch it.

    would the color code (as far as pin orientation) be the same for this cable except that I would leave the missing color pin locations empty?

    also what is the number #1 pin when you have the plug turned with the plastic catch facing down....left side or right?
