:cry I installed this dvd player and I can only play cd music using windows media player 9. when I try to burn a cd or play a dvd the message is insert disk.If i put a blank cd in and try to explore it under "my computer' freezes up. I have xp pro and it has assigned drivers. I also have a memorex cd player and the Lg dvd us set for master. It is seen on bios also as cdrom and dvd player. Do I need a driver or something else. I also use pinnacle software to burn cds. I have tried the LG electrics web but cant get in due to system busy message. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks:wave

Exploring a blank CD can cause erratic but it shouldn't lock up the PC, but then again, why explore a blank CD? If you're having trouble with DVD playback, download a media player that will play DVDs, MediaPlayer9 does NOT have built-in support for DVD playback. Try VLC Media Player, it's free and available right here at MajorGeeks http://www.majorgeeks.com/VLC_media_player_d4674.html Another good idea is to install a good codec pack for playback of and encoding of many types of multimedia files, both audio and video. I like the KLite Mega Pack. It's free, has a good media player built- in (Media Player Classic), it's also free, and also right here at MajorGeeks http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_d5230.html For burning CDs, try using one of the free burning tools available here. BurnAware is a good free one http://www.majorgeeks.com/BurnAware_Free_Edition_d5839.html If the drive doesn't recognize blank disks or any DVDs (even factory movies) then there may be a firmware issue, and firmware is best obtained from the drive manufacturer. Maybe try a different brand of blank CDs, or if you have access to another PC, try hooking up the drive in there and see how it works. Not to sound condescending, but are you sure that it's a CDRW drive? I searched Google for GCC-408b and found NOTHING with that model number...
