Question links not turning purple - why?

Hi all,

Out of the blue links that I click on have stopped turning purple once visited. Yes, I know, this is not a major issue but it is annoying. Like when looking through craigslist, I can't tell which post I've already visited. Well other than by actually reading it and thinking about whether I already visited it. But that takes more brain power than I want to expend.

Can anyone help me to fix this? I'm running IE 6 on Win XP Media Edition.

Thanks!

Try this....
Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab. Click on the Colors button; in the right-hand pane of the window that opens shows the colors for the visited and unvisited links. Make sure the colors didn't get changed do that they're the same. If that doesn't help, click the Advanced tab and click the Restore Defaults button. It will prompt if you also want to change your home page so answer appropriately....

good luck!

Hi!

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't help! Any other suggestions?

I should also mention that it's not just the color of links that's an issue. It's more that IE isn't showing that I visited a link. Like here on this forum, when I go to the posting and read it, then go back to the main forum page, the topic is still in bold as if I never clicked it. Even if I refresh the page, it still remains bold.

Yeah, I understand what th problem is, I just thought that maybe the colors had somehow been set so that both visited and unvisited links were the same color. I guess not. I'll do a bit of poking around and see if I can find anything.... be patient and I'll post any info I find.

If you are clearing the cookies and the history in your browser, that will clear the fat that you have visited links.

Hi sach2 & plodr, thanks for the responses.

I cleared my internet cache & it doesn't change things. One odd thing that's happening is that on craigslist (for instance), i'll click the link to read a posting, and I actually see the link turn purple right before it takes me to the ad page itself. But then when I go back it's turned blue again! I refresh and it's still blue.

Hey, I just wanted to mention a few other things, in hopes that they might help somebody figure out this problem for me:

- The problem occurs in Safe Mode also.
- Old links from more than a few days ago are still purple. It's just that any new ones I click don't turn purple.
- I tried System Restore and it doesn't correct the problem.
- This is really an annoying problem! It's surprising how much this affects the my ability to navigate the websites I use most often!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Instead of clicking the back button in the browser, click a link on the page that takes you back to the previous page. May or may not work, but it's simple and easy to try, and may eliminate certain possibilites as the problem.
