I bought a new laptop about 2 weeks ago and when I got it, I ran 3D Mark06 in which I got a score of about 10,500.
I run it again today and it's only about 9,867. I run it again and it's 9,854. Why is there such a difference? All the settings are as before - should I get concerned that there might be a problem with the graphics card or motherboard? |

Hi
No you will not have any issues with the GFX card or Motherboard, its likely to be drivers and or the amount of running applications processes you have, running benchmarks is always best done with minimal running applications from a clean boot, so now firewall, AV, Antimalware aplications running etc Update your gfx driver or if you have just updated then rollback on the gfx driver.... BUT to be really honest NEVER take these benchmarks to heart, they are a guide no more no less, in the real world its how you think your PC is running that counts and does it run what you want ok? if yes then take benchmarks with pinch of salt.

Hello,
I do always run them just after the computer's booted up with just the start up processes. I have the latest drivers for my graphics card so nothing to update there. I only give benchmarks a consideration because I like to have everything to its maximum possible standard, in other words the maximum my hardware allows. I haven't noticed any performance decrease in games like Crysis but that's why I use benchmarks, to tell me things that aren't visible to the eye. For example, I remember the first time I ran 3D Mark, during the second CPU test, it was on 2 FPS for quite a bit and today it was only for 3-4 seconds on a 2.5 Duo. I've only asked this because I know someone with same machine as me whose score was same as mine when he first got it, then a week later it was 3,000 - 4,000 depending on the run; turns out to be a faulty motherboard .However, seems like it's nothing to worry about then !Thanks Halo! |
