Computer shuts off after BIOS.

Hey everyone! Thanks in advance if you help me out with this.

Basically what's gong on is my computer shuts off after the BIOS screen.. everything is brand spankin' new except for my HDD's.. what it does is it starts up normally and everything, and after the BIOS screen it says "Detecting drives, please wait ..." and it shows my master HDD (IDE cables obv lol). Then it proceeds to seem to load normally, and the computer just shuts off.. and that's it. Here are my specs:

Video Card: Palit Radeon 2400PRO Sonic 600MHZ 256MB 800MHZ DDR2 PCI-E HDMI DVI-I TV Out Video Card

Memory: Mushkin HP PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-12 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit

MoBo: ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 1333FSB 2PCI-E16 3PCI 2PCI-E1 SATA2 Sound WLAN Motherboard

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor LGA775 Kentsfield 2.40GHZ 1066FSB 8MB Retail Box

PSU: Generic (Dynex brand) 500W.



I have a personal hunch that it's the PSU and I think I need a new one but I decided to get some input before I throw down any more money. Thanks again!

Probably the psu. Before you rush out to pick up a new one, try another one or borrow one from a friend/neighbor. Here's a list of good ones:

For a new pc, the cmos must be cleared & defaults are loaded in bios before use. The board might have been used by someone else with different settings.
