DVD writer 300c problems

My dvd writer does not read whatever is put into it. whether it is a music cd or if it is a game cd. I can't back up pictures...or anything. Everything in the computer says it is working fine...I am at my wits end...I have reinstalled, I have done everything except restore which I can't do without being able to back up my pictures and music files first. Maybe the drive is dying?

A DVD writer is one of the most highly technical devices in any PC and it's made in China as cheaply as possible. In my PC business, I replace a dozen or more of those drives every year. I keep several on the shelf, just in case........

If a DVD drive fails to read disks, replace it. It's just that simple.
Those little laser diodes burn out and when they do, the drive is dead.:cry

Have you tried to open the properties of the mentioned drive and see if it is still enabled,if not then enable it, if it is, try clicking on the driver tab an roll back driver option and see if it will work. If it doesn't, go back in there and click uninstall driver, then shut down PC and restart it. It will find new hardware and reinstall the driver for you. Sometimes with windows updates and all the other updates things get corrupt and have to be redone
