I have been testing my new getup which includes using an onboard LAN setup. I have a cable connection via Comcast and it seems to me I am not getting the network speeds I was before the upgrade. I was using a Microsoft network card and it seemed much faster. If I am recalling correctly, my Internet speeds before the upgrade were around 7-9kMbps, while now they are between 1 and 4 using a variety of on-line benchmarks. Can anyone suggest a reliable online bandwidth tester?

So, do results vary that much or do I need to tweak? Or think about installing that Microsoft network card? Using the on-board LAN should be no problem, as my rig is more than capable. Am I missing a setting?

    Thanks for any input.

i've used a couple of online tests. i have a 2wire modem, and there is a test on there (up at the top middle). when i had a repair tech come out a few months back, he used speedtest.net. i asked him about it, and he thought it gave more consistant results (although, i did get a slow reading at 1st today). as for your other questions, i'm not sure (but, i'd go with what was the fastest). - sos

    http://www.speedtest.net/ <-- ping, d/l, and u/l test.

    http://www.2wire.com/ <-- d/l only test
