To which forum should I address this problem?

I received a (legal) copy of Photoshop Adobe Illustrator v7 from a friend some time ago. I'ts on a CD. When I downloaded the program my AVG showed a Trojan so I quickly deleted that pogram from my computer. No trojan found after scanning after that. Still would like to use Photoshop however I'm very, very hesitant (scared stiff) to download it again because I think the CD has the Trojan in it.

On which forum should I direct my questions since the Trojan is on the CD and don't know whether it can be cleaned without using my computer.

If the CD is a genuine Photoshop CD then it would not have a virus on it. If it is home ripped it will not be legal but could have a virus on it.

Can you clarify which it is? Then we can ascertain if indeed you got a virus from the CD and direct your question to the most appropriate forum.

 

I doubt Adobe is putting virus's and such in their install disks. If it is a legit version, I would suspect a false positive from you scanner.

I was told that the copy was legal (?)because I was told that it is used for students. It could have been home-ripped but got a registration # on it.

When I scanned it with AVG 7.5 doing the Shell Extension test it showed:
Nero Burning Rom v5.5 Trojan hose & Backdoor.Generic 3.vxi and Keygen.exe.
I couldn't remove it with the shell extension test.

Installed Photoshop fully and this time it showed:
Nero Burning Rom v5.5.6.4 & Keygen.exe & EMA Plugin Zip

Therefore, I deleted the software, did another AVG scan and no infections showed after that.

Don't quote me but anything with a keygen on it is pirated. You got duped.

 

I've seen an ultra cheap copy of of Photoshop available on Ebay, Ireland.

This comes with a key that Abobe seems to accept, but the price is too cheap to believe so I can't recommend it.

Halo, I always scan and I mean everything I download and also after installation. So far I've had 1 malware/infection in my 4 years of computing, not counting this case, so that's not bad I say for being a newbie. I'll try the freebies you recommend to see which one suits me best.

The CD disk is now in the garbage.

 

Don't forget that Microsoft Word, or Canada's own Wordperfect, do a fair job for simple vector drawings.
