Outlook 2007 problems

Hi,

I recently installed Online Armor Free and since then I have been unable to log onto my isp's pop3 server. I am able to login into their mail server with the correct password. I am also able to login to the cobranded Verizon Yahoo email with this correct password. When i try to connect with outlook 2007, it keeps on asking for the password to connect to the incoming.verizon.net server. Every time i enter the password (correctly) it just pops back asking me to enter it again. When i try to send test message from tools, accounts, i get the error message: "your e-mail server rejected your login. verify your user name and password in account properties."

I have been on the phone with verizon tech support and they say as long as i am to able to log onto my verizon account (website and cobranded yahoo email) they cannot help me anymore.

Can someone tell me if this is a firewall problem. I also just installed Avast antivirus and scanned my computer and found a trojan generating virus. I suspect (just a guess) that I had an email spambot hijacking my email.

Any help from Online Armor experts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One way to check if it's your Firewall is disable it for as long as it takes to try to do a manual send receive in Outlook.

Also, make sure all your settings in outlook are ok.

One thing I have to do in Outlook with my Verizon Yahoo email account is make sure "log on using Secure Password Authentication" is unchecked. Also, under Outgoing server make sure "My outgoing server requires authentication" is checked along with "use same settings as my incoming mail server"

Hi LauraR,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I tried disabling firewall and sending test email and still had same problem. The settings you told me about are all as you stated. When I start Outlook I get a brief popup about an Avast Mail Outlook/Exchange Plugin. I don't know where or what that is. I recently installed Avast antivirus and that is when the problem started. I also installed Online Armor firewall at that time, but have ruled that out as cause of problem. Please reply, thanks.

See if that article helps you. It looks like you have to make sure the plugin is not disabled.

Make sure that the avast plug-in is not disabled in MS Outlook:

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.

Hi,

I tried to enable avast plugin in outlook 2007, but it wasn't in the list. I uninstalled Avast (I am now using PC tools antivirus) and still have the same problem. I have no clue what to try now. Can anyone please help?

thanks for your reply. What is the best way to completely eliminate/uninstall (and check if gone) avast and online armor? I will try your suggestions when i have some more time.

So, I was looking up the settings required for Outlook 2007 and the interesting thing is that I couldn't find them for anything above 2003 in outlook (which is what I have) for setting up Verizon Yahoo.

POP Verizon Yahoo! Mail with Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003

If you want to POP your Verizon Yahoo! Mail into Outlook 2002 or 2003, here's how:

From the Tools menu, select "Email Accounts."

Select the radio button next to "Add a new email account" and click the "Next" button.

Select the radio button next to "POP3" and click the "Next" button.

Enter the following information:User Information

Your Name: Enter your name as you'd like it to appear in the "From" field of your outgoing messages.

Email Address: Enter your full Verizon Yahoo! Mail address (for example, "user@verizon.net").

Server Information

Incoming mail server (POP3): incoming.yahoo.verizon.net

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net

Login Information

User Name: Enter your Verizon Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@verizon.net").

Password: Enter your Verizon Yahoo! password.

Do not check the box next to "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."

Click the "More Settings" box and select the "Outgoing Server" tab.

Check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."

Click the “Advanced” tab.

Under “Incoming Server (POP3)”, ensure the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" is not checked.

Under “Outgoing Server (SMTP)”, ensure the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" is not checked.

If you'd like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Verizon Yahoo! Mail server, click the "Advanced" tab. Check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server." If you want to delete your messages from the Verizon Yahoo! Mail server after viewing them in Outlook, don't check the box.

Click the "OK" button.

Click the "Next" button on the Email Account Wizard, then click "Finished."

Troubleshooting instructions.
If you followed the above configuration steps, you should be all set. However, if you cannot send or receive mail with your email client, try the following tips.
The Verizon Yahoo! Mail SMTP server requires authentication. Make sure you have enabled SMTP authentication. To turn this setting on, follow these steps:

Click "Tools," then select "Email Accounts."

Select "View or change existing email accounts" and click "Next."

Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click the "Change" button on the right.

Click the "More Settings..." button in the bottom-right corner of the Email Accounts window.

In the Internet Email Settings window, click the "Outgoing Server" tab. Ensure that the box is checked next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."

Click the "Advanced" tab and ensure that you have not selected "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under the incoming (POP3) or outgoing (SMTP) port settings.

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server, follow these steps:

From the Tools menu, choose "Email Accounts."

Select the radio button next to "Edit an existing account" and click the "Next" button.

Double-click the Yahoo! account.

Select the "Advanced" tab.

In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Verizon Yahoo! Mail server and on your local computer. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Verizon Yahoo! Mail server after you have received them in Outlook, do not check this box.

If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:

From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts"

Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the "Properties" button

Click on the "Advanced" tab

Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587

Click "Apply", then click "OK" and "Close"

This is for a Yahoo email account, so you may find some settings in there that pertain to your account:

POP Yahoo! Mail Plus with Microsoft Outlook 2007

If you want to "POP" your Yahoo! Mail Plus into your Outlook 2007 application, here's how:

From the Tools menu, select "Account Settings." If you do not see "Account Settings," place your cursor over the two arrows at the bottom of the list to display more choices.

On the Email tab, click New.

Check the box next to the first option, “Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP” and click Next.

In the Your Name box, type your name as you'd like it to appear when you send a message.

In the Email Address box, enter your Yahoo! Mail address (for example, "user@yahoo.com").

Check the box for “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” and click Next.

Check the box next to the first option “Internet E-mail” and click Next.

In the Server Information area, under “Account Type” select POP 3 from the pull-down menu.

In the Incoming mail server field, enter: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com

In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field, enter: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

In the Login Information area, in the User Name field, enter your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").

In the Password box, enter your Yahoo! Mail password.

Check "Remember Password" if you don't want Outlook to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail. Handy!

Do not check the box labeled "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."

Click on the More Settings button.

Click on the Outgoing Server tab and check the box next to “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.”

Click on the Advanced tab.

Under “Incoming Server (POP3)”, check the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)". The port number in the “Incoming Server (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn’t, make sure the port number is set to 995.

Under “Outgoing Server (SMTP)”, check the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)". Enter port number “465” in the “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” field.

If you'd like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server." If you want to delete your messages from the Yahoo! Mail server after viewing them in Outlook, don't check the box.

Click the OK button.

Click the Next button on the Email Account Wizard, then click Finished.

Would you like your Yahoo! Mail Plus inbox to be your primary inbox in Outlook 7? If so, click the Tools menu and select "Account Settings." If you don’t see "Account Settings," place your cursor over the two arrows at the bottom of the list to display more choices.

From the list, select the pop.yahoo account you've just added and click the Set as Default button.

Click the Close button. You’re done!

Thank You LauraR and MarkTrent.

I contacted Microsoft support and after a week of open case number the technician was able to solve the problem. It was a corrupted registry key called PSSP (protected storage ? ?). This key allows windows to correctly save passwords. Thanks for suggesting MS support. I never would have solved problem otherwise. Thanks again.:wave
