    Hi everyone :)

I seem to be having a problem with my laptop's display settings. Since my warranty expired with Dell one month ago, they won't help me. I'm hoping this is an easy fix that someone is willing to help me out with...

I have an Inspiron 6000, it's widescreen but I'm not sure what the pixel measurements are (or where to find them). Right now the dislplay is stuck in what looks like a smaller size (two black vertical bars on either side of the desktop image). I've gone into the display properties, dragged the second monitor over to become highlighted. From there I get an error message saying that the monitor is disabled, I click yes to enable it, make it my default, extend windows desktop, click apply/ok.... and nothing happens.

Does anyone know how to fix this? If I need to re-install drivers, how do I know which ones to install... where would I get them from?

    Thanks for the help!

    Operating system?
When did this problem start and did you install or change anything prior to this happening?
Have you tried System Restore to a date prior to this issue?

Are you sure that all this was your own making and not a virus or other malware? How did it start? It just came out of the blue? It sounds an awful lot like a malware problem to me.

Majorgeeks have a section for malware removal also - here is the link just in case.

one thing i like to mess around with...
    desktop screen...
right click anyplace on your desktop screen (vacant space)...
at the bottem it says 'properties'..
    click it..
    a window pops up... right?
probably is on themes... but click on the tab up above that says 'settings' ...
see a little slide bar ... says 'screen resolution'...?
you can slide that slide bar to change your screen size...
    click apply!
    click ok...
or go backwards and you can always choose default...

also search for display drivers for your monitor
then set it yo your native resolution (the best suited for your screen)

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies... Here is some of the background information:

    I am running Windows XP

This started yesterday after uninstalling a game I had downloaded (the stupid Hell's Kitchen game from the Fox website). I figured it was a safe download from a TV show (embarrassing I know). I have tried using system restore, but when I complete it it says that there have been no changes. I have also tried adjusting the display properties (resolution) but after clicking on apply, no change happens.

I'm not sure how to find my drivers, or what their names would be, if I would need to download a new one.

    thanks!

when I go to the dell website and select the display drivers, it tells me that there are none for me to download (that I already have them)

This should actually be in the Drivers Forum. You may want to repost in there and link this post to it.

There are a few really good driver people that may be able to help you out.

Ok...I did find this from Intel:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1862&lang=eng

I am not a driver person though. My first thought would be to download the driver, uninstall what you have, and reinstall the driver. But you should really go to the driver forum as I said to make sure.

Closed thread so support can continue in the driver forum, saves having mixed advice in two threads.

    Cheers
