LaTex--Any Gurus?

    I am having a heck of a time learning this.

    Any advice? I have Gnu Texemacs installed, and Texlive, but I cannot for the life of me really tell if its working, considering that nothing I try seems to give me any mathematical symbols, despite following tutorials and what not.

    I've only started to learn the LaTex programming language but I've found
    The Not So Short Introdution to LaTex to be an amazingly good guide. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss further - I'm learning this for fun, so I'm open to trying anything that the application has to offer!
