Hi everyone. I've been having a problem with the display size of my laptop monitor. I had posted the problem in the software forum and was told to try over on this one.

I have an Inspiron 6000 and am running Windows XP. This started yesterday after uninstalling a game I had downloaded (the Hell's Kitchen game from the Fox website). I figured it was a safe download from a TV show (embarrassing I know). I have tried using system restore, but when I complete it it says that there have been no changes. I have also tried adjusting the display properties (resolution) but after clicking on apply, no change happens.

Right now the dislplay is stuck in what looks like a smaller size (two black vertical bars on either side of the desktop image). I've gone into the display properties, dragged the second monitor over to become highlighted. From there I get an error message saying that the monitor is disabled, I click yes to enable it, make it my default, extend windows desktop, click apply/ok.... and nothing happens.

This is the information I have found regarding my drivers:

It's only running at 800x600, but it seems like the driver is working correctly...

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi, got a message that you're having a little problem.
From the looks of things your Dell driver is not installed.
You have the Windows generic Plug and Play one running instead.

Install your chipset driver first (this is recommended before installing drivers)
    Intel Mobile Chipset R114079.EXE

    Install this Grapics/Display driver:
    ATI MobilityRadeon X300 R106547.EXE

You may have to change your display size after the install, to get it where you want it.

I was able to install the chipset driver with no problems. When I went to install the graphics/display driver I got this error message:

"Setup was unable to find components that can be installed in your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure that you have the required hardware or software."

Is there something else that I need to download first?

   ):confused
Did you get the display driver to install then?
Or did Windows re detect the right driver after a shut down and reboot?

Anyway, glad you are back to normal again. ;)

    Wish I were.:-D

No the display driver never did install.... maybe the chipset was enough? After the chipset driver installed, the display settings allowed me to change the resolution of the plug and play monitor back to it's original size (something it wasn't letting me do before). So I'm assuming that it was just the chipset driver because that's the only thing that installed. Either way thank you for your help :)

Thanks for posting back with that info. ;)

It sounds like the Display driver was intact and the chipset was the problem. ;)
