Hi, Trying to fix my sons laptop which suddenly cannot see the cd/dvd drive.

Checked Device Manager no sign of it.
Tried following a method to fix it by deleting the filters in the regedit as shown on many sites. Rebooted and still does not work.
In the BIOS it says Cd rom not installed.

    Any help please welcome.

Either the connection is loose/damaged or the CD/DVD drive has died.
The cheapest is to take the drive out and and put it back in to see if it works. The next cheapest is to use a USB external optical drive. The most expensive is to buy an internal optical drive for the notebook.

Same thing happened on my Vaio notebook running XP Pro--did you ever get it fixed and if so how did you do it?
