PCI Express 2.0 Card but 1.0 slot on Motherboard

I am looking into getting a 9600 GT graphics card.
The specifications say its interface is PCI Express x16 2.0.
I have looked through my User's Manual for my motherboard, it says I have one PCI Express x16 slot. There is no mention of v1.0 or 1.1 or 2.0.

Will the card work?

By the way my motherboard is the
Gigabyte S-Series M61P-S3

Since the new card was meant for a PCI Express 2.0 slot, will I experience a noticeable drop in performance? Would it still be worth upgrading from my current 8500 card?

 

According to the research I done, it shouldn't impare your're performance at all...if anything, supposedly PCI-E x1 sometimes doesn't fully utilize the bandwidth of the x1 interface, so it might bump it up even more so.

I have the same problem as him, my onboard graphics card is well crap and i need to upgrade. My motherboard is PCI 1.0 but the card I am looking at( same as him) is PCI 2.0. I just want a honest answer if it will be compatible with my motherboard and will it work.
